Community

Boulder Creek Wind Farm is committed to building positive relationships with our host landowners, neighbours and the local community. With a strong connection to the Central Queensland region, the project places a high priority on two-way dialogue to manage construction impacts and ensure that benefits flow to the local community.

Community Collaboration

We work closely with local landholders, neighbours, and the broader community to share updates and obtain feedback on the project as it moves through the construction phase and into operations. We have established the Boulder Creek Wind Farm Community Liaison Group (CLG) consisting of members from the local area to represent the interests of the nearby communities, including Westwood, Mount Morgan, Dululu and Bouldercombe.

The CLG is a forum for two-way communication between the wind farm owners, development and construction contractors and members of the community who are potentially affected by the development and operation of the wind farm. The CLG also plays a key role in assessing and making recommendations for the Community Benefit Fund.

Community Benefits

Boulder Creek Wind Farm is investing in local social initiatives to build a positive benefit for the community.

Community Benefit Fund

The Community Benefit Fund has been established to be administered during construction and operations, to support local initiatives with environmental and social objectives.

A working group of the Boulder Creek Wind Farm Community Liaison Group is now calling for project funding applications. The working group will review applications and make funding recommendations.

Managing Construction Impacts

Boulder Creek Wind Farm is working to minimise impacts to the community as we carry out construction. We are keeping community members informed of the following activity:

Construction of 1.5 km of new road is underway near Westwood, off the Capricorn Highway, to facilitate access to the wind farm site. This stretch of new road will use an existing road reserve (Roger Street). There are upgrade works, including road widening, to Arthur Street and Flaggy Creek Road. Boulder Creek Road and Sandy Creek Road are also being used by construction traffic.

During the construction period, the main traffic-generating activities are the transport of materials and equipment to site, as well as the daily movements of construction staff. Where works are occurring in an area, traffic controllers are in place to manage traffic flows.

Work is underway to translocate a large population of threatened Cycas megacarpa, a species of cycad native to Queensland, away from the wind farm site. This involves detailed assessment, management and monitoring throughout the process of relocating the plants to a permanent new site.
